THE ROYALS 'WORK WITH ME ANNIE' FROM A 1954 FEDERAL 78.

The Royals (later to become Hank Ballard & The Midnighters) released this, the first of a series of very controversial 'Annie' tunes, on the Federal label in 1954. Work With Me Annie inspired an 'answer' version from Etta James in 1955. Etta's The Wallflower (Roll With Me Henry) was then 'cleaned up' and taken to the top of the charts by Georgia Gibbs as Dance With Me Henry, later that year.

We heard Work With Me Annie on the Aug 04/08 edition of The Room.
