Blues on Whyte Fundraiser

On January 21 2012, CKUA was on hand at Blues on Whyte to present a cheque for $9,385 to the Edmonton Food bank.

On December 15th 2011, Ken Regan was one of the speakers at a workshop hosted by the Edmonton Economic Development Corporation. Various presenters talked about their vision, ambitions, and accomplishments in making Edmonton's downtown area a vibrant and dynamic space.

"Our city has what I believe are some of the finest cultural institutions on this continent – many of them steeped in tradition and deeply rooted in the community. Cases in point…CKUA, a community broadcasting pioneer has been here for 84 years; the Yardbird Suite, a jazz club at the 53rd parallel, operating here for more than 50 years. The renowned Edmonton Folk Festival - 31 years; Fringe Theatre Festival, second largest in the world - 30 years; and Walterdale Playhouse, western Canada’s oldest amateur theatre company – 52 years. These are things we in Edmonton might sometimes take for granted, but we should not. Because many of today’s leading urban designers will tell you, and many cities are coming to realize, it is precisely these kinds of diverse, long lasting cultural institutions that are fundamental to any city that aspires to greatness.

The Rozsa Award for Excellence in Arts Management was created in 2002 to honour the philanthropic efforts of the late Dr. Ted Rozsa and Dr. Lola Rozsa. Unique in the country, the Award is intended to recognize, celebrate and promote the contribution of an outstanding arts administrator, and to provide additional professional development benefits for both the individual and their company.

The Rozsa Foundation has since created two more awards in order to include more arts managers, and to enable additional partners to become involved. CKUA is proud to be a partner and sponsor of the Rozsa Foundation Awards.
