CKUA and the Rozsa Foundation Awards

Nominees and Award Winners: read their biographies and hear them talk to CKUA about their work.

The Rozsa Award for Excellence in Arts Management was created in 2002 to honour the philanthropic efforts of the late Dr. Ted Rozsa and Dr. Lola Rozsa. Unique in the country, the Award is intended to recognize, celebrate and promote the contribution of an outstanding arts administrator, and to provide additional professional development benefits for both the individual and their company.

The Rozsa Foundation has since created two more awards in order to include more arts managers, and to enable additional partners to become involved. CKUA is proud to be a partner and sponsor of the Rozsa Foundation Awards.

School at the Leg(islature)

CKUA has had an office at the Legislature for more than 60 years. Part of our role there includes teaching children about how the legislature works. Here is a brief trip into the hallowed halls with our News Director Ian Gray and the students of Malmo Elementary.

Ian receives quite a bit of fan mail from students who have attended 'School at the Leg'. But it's interesting to see what their favourite part of the visit was...

Orest hits the Track

As you can imagine, CKUA is on many distribution lists for concerts, festivals, shows, and other arts/cultural events - but once in a while we get something a little unusual. In July we received an email invitation from Eurasia Automotive to be taken for laps around the Edmonton Indy track at race speed in a Porsche 911, part of the promotions for the "NASCC Eurasia Cup GT Invitational... traditionally one of the most exciting support races at the Edmonton Indy".

And our own Orest Soltykevych stepped up for the adventure. His report from the front line:

Hi guys,

Orest Photo w-o text.png

I'm back in one piece, but still a bit queasy...

That was way cool - I thought we'd roll the car during the hairpin turns, but the Porsche hugged the trtack.

We hit a top speed of 201 km/h - much faster than my Toyota Echo.
