- To play Media files you need an audio card and
speakers. You also need a modem or connection to
the Internet capable of 28.8 Kbps or faster.
- You must have Windows Media Player. The
player is available for free at the Microsoft download Website.http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/default.asp
- If you have installed the Player, and restarted your computer
and you are not getting any signal or any messages, then
please consult the help files for your web browser, or
- If WINAMP has been set as your
default player, you will need to make Windows Media
Player your default player.
- Go into Tools/Options/Formats in Windows Media Player
and select it as the default player for Windows Media file
formats.
- Click the "Live On Air" link on the ckua.com
homepage and WMP will launch automatically.
- If not, try again going to File/Open URL (In Windows Media
Player) and enter this URL: http://media.ckua.com/broadcast
- If you get the following message when you try to listen
online. "Windows Media Player cannot
find the specified file. Be sure the path is typed correctly.
If it is, the file does not exist at the specified location,
or the computer where the file is stored is offline."
- Try going to File/Open URL in Windows Media Player and
enter this URL: http://media.ckua.com/broadcast
- If you are running Windows XP with Service Pack
2 with Windows Media Player 9/10 and when you connect
to CKUA's online stream, you get the introduction from one
of the announcers, but when it goes to connect to the broadcast,
it times out and never buffers; or it times
out after about 90 seconds and then connects follow these
instructions to rectify the problem:
For Windows Media Player 9
- Click on Tools/Options then the Network tab,
- Unselect the radio button that says UDP, click apply and
then close out of that window.
- Close the player and relaunch the stream using http://media.ckua.com/broadcast
For Windows Media Player 10
- Click on Tools/Options then the Network
tab (right-click at or near the top of the player)
- Unselect the radio button that says UDP, click apply and
then close out of that window.
- Close the player and relaunch the stream using http://media.ckua.com/broadcast
- If nothing seems to work, you can contact
our webmaster and indicate what version of Windows /
Apple / Linux and which player and version you are running
or call 1-800-494-2582.
Attention: Windows Media Player Version 9 on Windows
98 users:
If you are receiving the following message - "Windows
Media Player cannot play this file. Connect to the Internet
or insert the removable media on which the file is located,
and then try to play the file again", you will need to
make a setting change by
- Launching Windows Media Player
- Go to Tools/Options/Player
- Make sure "Connect to the Internet..." is checked.
(Last option on the bottom of the page).
Note: Linux Users
We have found that using KDE's front end, kmplayer buffers
about as quickly as it would on Windows Media Player. Granted
the quality will be affected by your available bandwidth.
Other options are mplayer but it takes longer to buffer properly,
or Totem, but you need access to the Media Player 9 codec
via win32-codecs. The direct path to listen to CKUA is http://media.ckua.com/broadcast.
As well, you can download a version of AVI File as a compatible
media player with the Windows Media 9 codec at
http://avifile.sourceforge.net
or
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design6/news.html
Also, there is a version of Windows Media player for Solaris.
