Monday, August 30

The Gallery At Milner at #7 Sir Winston Churchill Square, Edmonton, in the downtown library opens a new exhibition entitled Look Up: The Fine Art of Roofing from September 1st through 30th. The artist Brenda Raynard works from a studio in a commercial roofing warehouse. Meet her at a reception on September 18th, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. Call 780-944-5383.

Vocal Latitudes World Music Choir, led by Frank Rackow, is welcoming new singers in all voices. The choir performs world, jazz, madrigals, and pop music at various venues in Calgary. Choral experience is not necessary. Call 403-277-5295.

Sweetwater 905 is celebration of music, poetry, visual and performance art running from September 3rd to 5th, 15 miles north of Dawson Creek, B.C. The event presents artists including Rachelle van Zanten, Al Simmons, and The Party on High Street. Get tickets in Grande Prairie and Dawson Creek. Call 250-759-4527. From September 17th to April 10th you can attend six plays from six different theatre companies in Edmonton with the Theatre 6 Pack. Pre-selected production from the companies of Teatro la Quindicina, U of A Studio Theatre, Walterdale Playhouse, Shadow Theatre, and Workshop West Theatre offer a wide variety of styles and venues. ATB Financial, Alberta Music and CKUA Radio are sponsoring an Alberta-wide song contest that runs in parallel with the second annual Untapped Alberta concert series. The contest winner will receive cash toward a professional recording of the winning song, and inclusion on Alberta Music's 2012 Sampler. The second and third-place winners will receive cash prizes. Record and submit your original, new, unreleased song about Alberta by October 8th. Get details at wearealberta.ca.

Kristina Millar, Cameron D. Ansorger, and Tharrie Zietsman incorporate history and narrative into their paintings and illustrations. You can view their work until September 24th at Window Galleries in the Epcor Centre, 205 8th Avenue SE in Calgary. Call 403-294-7455, extension 1476.

The Red Deer Chamber Singers are preparing for their annual Renaissance Feast and Dessert Concert with a potluck supper and rehearsal tonight. The 24th annual Edmonton International Film Festival runs from September 24th to October 2nd but you can get passes cheaper until the end of today. Enjoy films including Score: A Hockey Musical and The Rock n Roll Dreams of Duncan Christopher.
