Erica Leigh Gayler
erica.gayler@ckua.com
Erica Leigh Gayler began working at CKUA in the spring of 2000 as a music library volunteer, and was soon hired on as a summer intern and part-time assistant to the Music Director. Erica left the station for a time in January 2001, but returned in barely a year later to take on the library again. It seems CKUA is in her blood - no small surprise, as her parents introduced her to the sounds of CKUA before she'd said her first word!
Thankfully, in addition to being a music lover, Erica types at a superhuman speed, something that's necessary in order to keep up-to-date in cataloguing the stacks and stacks of CDs that show up on her desk every week. Outside of her library duties, she puts her experience as a singer and longtime lover of vocal harmonies to good use as the host of The Vocal Beat, Alberta's only all a cappella radio show. She gets a kick out of sharing all of her favourite music with an appreciative audience, and will cheerfully point out to anyone who'll listen that every new show is just as fun and exciting for her as the first show she ever hosted.
When not at CKUA, Erica can be found performing and rehearsing around town with 'Nuf Sed and ̉ran, or at home knitting, playing video games, and spending long hours with her guitar. She lives in Edmonton in Castle Mortomica, a humble and nerdy abode that she shares with two very bizarre roommates, a pet fish named Spiny Norman, and over two hundred Pez dispensers. No, really.
