Position: Board Member

Authority and Responsibility

The Local Chapter Board of Directors is the legal authority for CKUA Radio Foundation. As a member of the board, a Director acts in a position of trust for the community and is responsible for the effective governance of the Chapter.

Requirements:

Term

Directors are elected by the membership at the Annual General Meeting. Directors serve for a two-year term. Directors may be released at the end of the elected term, by resigning, or according to CKUA's bylaws.

Position: President or Chairperson

Both the Chairperson and President are titles used for this Board position

Requirements:

Term

Presidents are elected by the membership at the Annual General Meeting. Presidents serve for a two-year term. Directors may be released at the end of the elected term, by resigning, or according to CKUA's bylaw.

Position: Vice President

Requirements:

  • Promotes CKUA in their Local Community.
  • Support of and participation in fundraising events on behalf of CKUA.
  • Acts as Chair in the absence of the Chairperson.
  • Acts as a signing officer for cheques in absence of one or other signing officers.
  • Acts as Chair in the absence of the Chairperson.
  • Serves on the Executive Committee.
  • Learn the duties of the Chairperson and keeps informed on key issues.
  • Works closely as consultant and advisor to the Chairperson.
  • Chairs at least one major committee (fundraising, nominating).
  • Orients the new Vice-Chairperson.

Term

Vice Presidents are elected by the membership at the Annual General Meeting. Vice Presidents serve for a two-year term. Directors may be released at the end of the elected term, by resigning, or according to CKUA's bylaw.

Position: Secretary

Requirements:

  • Promotes CKUA in their Local Community
  • Serves on the Executive Committee.
  • Support of and participation in fundraising events on behalf of CKUA.
  • Keep copies of the Chapter Bylaws and minutes.
  • Keeps up to date lists of officers, Chapter Board members, committees and membership.
  • Notifies Chapter members of meetings.
  • Brings official minute book to meeting.
  • Makes sure there is a quorum at Chapter meetings (fifty percent plus one).
  • Keep accurate minutes of meetings.
  • Records motions and decisions of meetings.
  • Signs Chapter minutes to attest to their accuracy.
  • Records all corrections to minutes.
  • Keeps copies of minutes of Chapter and committee meetings
  • Distributes copies of minutes to Chapter members promptly after meeting.
  • Conducts general Board correspondence.
  • Keep records of all Chapter correspondence.
  • Ensures members are notified of General Meetings
  • Orients the new secretary.

Secretary is elected by the membership at the Annual General Meeting. Secretary serves for a two-year term. Secretary may be released at the end of the elected term, by resigning, or according to CKUA's bylaws.

Position: Treasurer

Requirements:

  • Promotes CKUA in their Local Community.
  • Serves on the Executive Committee.
  • Support of and participation in fundraising events on behalf of CKUA.
  • Gives regular reports to the Chapter and CKUA Radio Foundation on the financial state of the Chapter.
  • Keeps financial reports on file
  • Submits a financial report at each Annual General Meeting.
  • Keeps accurate accounts of Chapter receipts and disbursements for Chapter related expenditures
  • Receives and banks all monies directed by the Chapter.
  • Ensures that monies raised from CKUA activities are forwarded to CKUA within one week of the event taking place.
  • Prepares and monitors overall budget with Finance Committee.
  • Files necessary financial reports and audits.
  • Chairs the Finance Committee.
  • Orients the new Treasurer.
  • Acts as signing officer, with another officer for cheques and other documents.
  • Orients the new Treasurer.

Treasurer is elected by the membership at the Annual General Meeting. Treasurer serves for a two-year term. Treasurer may be released at the end of the elected term, by resigning, or according to CKUA's bylaws.
